Growth In NY 5th-Slowest, Census Finds

New York State was the fifth slowest-growing state in 2001-2010, according to the first round of Census 2010 data released Tuesday, Dec. 21.
Its population rose 2.1 percent to 19,378,102.  Breakouts for Otsego County or local municipalities are not yet available.
The slowest-growing states were Michigan, Rhode Island, Louisiana and Ohio; all lost population.

HE’S BACK:  Thomas “Stretch” Redding Sr. has rejoined the village Police Department as school-crossing guard at Walnut and Delaware when school resumes Monday, Jan. 3.

PAINTING DUE:  Samuel F.B. Morse’s 1833 painting, “Gallery of the Louvre,” will be returned next August to Hyde Hall, the National Historic Landmark, where it once hung, on loan from the Terra Foundation for Art.

HELPING GIRLS: The Women’s Fund of the Community Foundation for South Central New York has awarded Girls on the Run, Cooperstown chapter,  $2,000 for an updated curriculum and supplies for the GOTR sites in Sidney and Delhi.


In all, 254 toys and $500 in donations were dropped at the Toys for Tots drop-off this season, Cooperstown Family Chiropractic.  Standing are Janice Eichler and Cherri Haner from Wilber Bank, which contributed 125 gifts.  Seated are Drs. Jim and Matthew Craig.
