CCS Redskin guard Jay Davine drives for the basket during the third quarter of the Section 3, Class C-1 Sectional Finals Saturday, March 5, at Utica Memorial Auditorium.  With Mike Moakler out with a sprained knee and Sam Bowen limping, Coop was topped by Syracuse IT, 69-52.  Top scorers were Jeremiah Ford 13 points;  Harrison Clinton had 11.   CCS’ starting five, Davine, Ford, Clinton, Jeff Flynn and Sam Bowen are juniors, and will all be back next year.

Goodyear Lake's Polar Bear Jump...

Milford’s Danny Priest shouts his defiance at the wind at the 16th annual Goodyear Lake Polar Bear Jump Saturday, Feb. 19,   It snowed, and the wind chill was 12-below.

Milford’s Steve Meade, above, does a backflip into the 37-degree water.  The event, organized by Jamie and Brenda Waters, Milford, since 1994, raised more than $78,000 to benefit eight stricken children, the Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, and a local church.

Madeline Zenir, Cherry Valley, takes her first plunge shortly after her friend, Mataiah Waters.   Together, the girls raised $1,325 in pledges.

OTSEGO COUNTY BEAUTIFUL  
Honorable mentions in the amateur division were given to Julie Carney of Oneonta, Andrew Rock of Phoenix Mills, and Amy Stack of Cooperstown.  Youth division Honorable Mentions were awarded to Olivia Virzi of Hartwick and Erin Rock of Phoenix Mills.

First place, professional division, Milo Stewart, Cooperstown, with Nikon D3X at Lakewood Cemetery.
First place, youth division, Josie Hovis, 9, Murphy Hill,   with Fuji FinPix J150W of brother Ray “goofing around.”

First place, amateur division, of Otsego Land Trust’s first photo contest, “People & Trees,” was  Laura Kilty, Cooperstown, with Nikon D5000 while kayaking on Otsego Lake in September.

With a rush of energy, Tatianna Riordan, foreground, and Avril Heller, behind her, lead a contingent of Red Hot Ropers into the Cooperstown Elementary School gym Friday, Jan. 4, for the 19th annual demonstration.  The club will perform Jan 29 at a CCS away boys basketball game in Cobleskill, and Feb. 4 at home.
